This weekend, I found myself feeling down. Between battling a horrible cough and wrestling with my thoughts about my books, particularly my Island Secrets Series, I felt completely unmotivated. The ads I’ve been running haven’t been converting well, so I’ve decided to pause advertising until I can get advice on the next steps.
It wasn’t an easy decision. I poured so much of myself into this series, dreaming big for it and losing sleep along the way. Facing this reality felt like a personal setback.
My motivation was at an all-time low. I didn’t feel like going out for my daily walk, writing, or even preparing this Monday Motivation post. I started Monday Motivation to inspire both you and myself. As an independent author, staying motivated is crucial to balancing writing, marketing, designing covers, and so much more, but this weekend, though, I felt stuck.
Finding My Monday Motivation Mojo
I wrote this post on Sunday afternoon. I still didn't walk today but I did turn to my yoga practice and then did a guided meditation. Nikki Dyer’s “Everything Will Be OK” meditation asked a simple but profound question: Where were you this time last year?
Last year, I was gearing up to rapid-release the Island Secrets Series. Reflecting on how far I’ve come since then reignited my motivation. Not only did I successfully launch that series, but I also wrote the first book of a new series called, Wherever You Will Go, and completed a novella called, In 5 Days’ Time. Now that's not bad at all, is it?
That shift in perspective reminded me not to isolate a single moment of feeling blue, being down in the dumps or disappointing news. Instead, I’m focusing on the bigger picture—on how much I’ve achieved, learned, and grown in just a year.
If you’re feeling low today, try looking back at where you were a year ago. Chances are, you’ve come farther than you think. Let that progress inspire you to keep moving forward, one step at a time.
Here’s to celebrating every victory—big and small—and starting the week with a fresh perspective. 💛
