6 Tiny Habits To Help You Achieve Your Dreams

Blue and purple shiny objects surrounding the word Dream

Turning your dreams into reality is no mean feat. I know! It has taken me years to come to the conclusion that if I was ever going to successfully sell a large number of my books on a regular basis, I needed to become an independent author and start my own author business. I am now in year one of my business and though I have not achieved the success I set out to find, I have discovered 6 tiny habits that have led me to the small successes I've had on my journey. And that journey continues.

So today's Monday Motivation is for anyone who wants to begin to fulfil a dream. Here are my 6 tiny habits to help you achieve your dreams:

1. Remind Yourself Frequently of Where You Want to Go

So many times I've spent hours being really 'busy' and having nothing to show for it at the end of the day. Instead, focus on what truly excites you, even if it seems outlandish to everyone else. Revisit and re-write your goals daily to help keep your vision clear to stay motivated to keep on track.

2. Stick with One Dream

In a world full of distractions, staying focused is a superpower. People who achieve their dreams resist the temptation to jump from one shiny new idea to another. And boy I have been guilty of this. It's distracting and sometimes expensive, too. Persistence is key. Even if you need to pivot or evolve your approach, but maintain momentum in your chosen path.

3. Use Feedback to Continually Tweak, Adapt, and Improve

Feedback is invaluable if you're aiming high. You need to share your work, gather objective criticism, and adapt your processes based on what works. This continuous loop of feedback and improvement ensures you stay on the right track. For me this means giving my books to readers for review and feedback. I also have a close group of people who read early drafts. To date I am still using this habit to tweak my advertising and promotion campaigns but it's early days and I know it will take time to get better.

4. Brainstorm, Brainstorm, Brainstorm

There's nothing like a good brainstorming session. Taking ten minutes to write or sketch solutions to problems can unlock hidden gems. Ask yourself, "What's one thing I can do to simplify my system today?" and generate a list of potential solutions. I use this habit to cover so many problems or hurdles I come up against. Brainstorming helps me with coming up with book descriptions, book titles, promotional material. I find it so useful and a good brainstorming session could help you in anything that leads you closer to achieving your dream.

5. Refer to Mentors

Mentors are a treasure trove of wisdom. Many people have already walked the path you dream of, even if only in parts. Learning from their experiences can save you from months or even years of unnecessary mistakes. Seeking out mentors, whether in person, through books, or courses, or your contemporaries online and applying their insights, can significantly boost your journey.

6. Spot and Delete Energy Drains

Maintaining high energy levels is crucial for pursuing dreams. Dream achievers are keenly aware of what drains their energy and take steps to eliminate these drains. Conducting regular energy audits helps identify and remove negative influences, such as stressful people or bad habits. I am always on the lookout for what saps my energy. Like this I have gone past the 'busy work' phase and moved into the 'focused work' phase. Pruning the energy drains ensures you have the energy to sustain your efforts.

Incorporating these tiny habits into your daily routine can make a significant difference in turning your dreams into reality. Focus on what excites you, stay committed, use feedback wisely, brainstorm regularly, learn from mentors, and protect your energy. By doing so, you'll be well on your way to achieving all your dreams.

Good luck and here is one of my favourite meditations to maintain focus. I hope it helps you!
